|10/28/08 - Letter from Jennings Family to the FNHL.
On behalf of the entire Jennings family we would just like to thank everyone for coming out Friday evening to honor Dan and help make the event so successful for Erica. Erica was Dan’s life and he would be so happy that his friends and family gathered there together to help build toward her future. That night would not have been possible if not for the love, determination and organization of the FNHL family.
We would like to thank George Fleischmann, John Albanese, Patty Ryan, Dan Jervis, the Cicero Twin Rinks and all of the many, many other people who helped put this wonderful event together. I am sure that Dan was there Friday night and looking down so proudly. We are very humbled by everyone’s kindness and generosity and thank you just doesn’t seem like it is enough. We are so appreciative! Those of you who knew Dan, I am sure will agree that Dan was a very kind and generous man himself. In his short life, he touched so many lives in so many different ways. We hope that each and every one of you will embrace life the way Dan did and live each day to the fullest!
Thank you again and we hope you enjoyed the night.
10/26/08 - The benefit was night a tremendous success. On behalf of George, the entire FNHL and the Jennings family we want to sincerely thank everyone for your support!! Thanks to your efforts and generosity, a total of $5212 was raised and donated to Erica's trust fund. Even now that the benefit has been held some additional donations have come in and George estimates that the final total will be a few hundred dollars more when those are added in. Also, another big thanks to Kyle and the Cicero Twin Rinks for all that they did to help make the night a success including the additional donations of pizza and soda.
10/21/08 - We are just a few days away from the benefit and all systems look good. The outpouring of support from all corners has been fantastic and we greatly appreciate it. We look forward to seeing everyone at the event and hope that you and your families will join us as we raise Dan's banner in the rink and celebrate his life. George has suggested that FNHL players could wear their blue jerseys and spouses the white, at least for the ceremony. Since we don't know how many people will attend we do recommend that if you and your family members have your own skates that you bring them. The open skate will be free as will the skate rental thanks to Kyle at the rink but we don't know if they will run out of rentals. Food and drinks have been graciously donated by many businesses and individuals as have a number of nice raffle prizes. Food will be served starting at 6pm until it runs out. Once again the availability will depend on the turnout. We are also planning to hold three 50/50 drawings during the evening and also have a puck shoot game and children's play area available. Once again, thanks to the many people and businesses who have contributed in so many ways and we will see you all on Friday!!
10/09/08 - Dan's brother Ron sent a message to the website. It speaks for itself. See below.
I am looking forward to this night but also dreading this night. For myself I seem to feel strong one moment then break down for another, this night will be very special to us all just from what I've seen and heard.
My family and I very much appreciate everything all Dan's friends have done from being by our sides that Saturday morning and for the ongoing events your group has established.
In case I do not see each of you personally, I thank you very much.
one item I see missing from your list are boxes of tissues!!
10/05/08 - A planning meeting was held last Friday and we were able to divide up some of the things that need to be done. Volunteers are still needed to assist on running the various stations we will have set up during the event. If you're interested in helping out, please call George at 436-6882 or e-mail me and I will forward it to him. Based on the preliminary response, the turnout should be quite large so we want to do everything we can to be prepared. Patty Ryan and John Albanese have volunteered to be in charge of the food and Patty sent me the following memo to post tonight. Contact information for both can be found at the bottom.
Thank you for your interest in supporting our Memorial Benefit for Dan Jennings.
Because we believe this event could be much larger than initially envisioned, we felt the need to create a more structured plan for the food donations. With that said, we have developed a list of food and food related items that we’d like to receive. If you would like to make, or bring, any one or more of these items, please contact either of the two folks listed below, and let us know what and how much you would like to donate.
Please be sure that if you select a food item like a tray of ziti, or a tray of cookies - you use a disposable container that does not need to be returned. When you arrive the night of the benefit, please ask to be directed to the “food room” to drop off your donation.
We thank you in advance for your generosity and truly appreciate your help in making this benefit a huge success – one we know Dan would be very proud of.

10/01/08 - The benefit night is set and confirmed for Friday 10/24/08 from 6pm to 10pm. We sincerely hope everyone will take the opportunity to join us in this night of celebration as we remember Dan's life. The proceeds from the event will benefit Dan's daughter Erica. George and I are working on the final plans and schedule for the evening but we know it will be a free public skate with food and some nice raffle prizes. On that evening we will unveil a banner at the rink in Dan's honor. Please pass the word about this night to anyone who might be interested. The event is open to all and we hope to have a large turnout of FNHL players, their families and anyone else from the community who would like to attend. Several people have e-mailed me to offer food and other refreshments and those are appreciated, but we are by no means done accepting help from anyone who can offer it. We will also need a few volunteers to assist that night with selling raffle tickets and other behind the scenes stuff so please let me know if you are able to help out there as well. Thanks in advance to everyone for your support. We know this will be a great evening and is an opportunity for the FNHL family to help in some small way to make sure Erica is taken care of - which I'm sure is what Dan would want most....See you there!!!
09/08/08 - George called this morning to let me know that plans are in the works for a benefit night, most likely sometime in late October. It will be a Friends and Family night where all can skate and remember Dan. My understanding is that we will forego our regular games that week in favor of bringing everyone together. I will announce the details as they come in. George has requested people bring a dish to pass and asked me to put together a list of who can bring what. If you are able to help out with this please e-mail me and let me know what you can bring. Also if anyone has any comments or suggestions on what we can or should do, please e-mail me with that as well.
08/31/08 - John Albanese has just advised me that the calling hours for Dan will be Tuesday from 2-4pm and also 7-9pm at the Sears - Middleton - Jones Funeral Home, 209 North Main Street (Rt 11) North Syracuse, NY. The funeral will be on Wednesday at 10am at the same place. It is our understanding that the family has decided on cremation. We sincerely hope you will be able to attend these services. Also, please take a moment to post your thoughts and remembrances of Dan on our page. Just click on the link below.
08/30/2008 - It is with the deepest sadness that I must pass along the news that our good friend and long-time FNHL player Dan Jennings died last night as the result of a car accident. Such a tragic loss can't be easily put into words. I've been fortunate to know him for the past six years and have always been proud to call him a friend. Many of you have known him for much longer and knowing how I feel, I can only imagine the depth of the grief that you share. On the ice Dan played hard and never apologized for that. More importantly, off the ice he was a father, devoted to his daughter Erica and a maintained deep sense of the importance of family. He was someone you knew you could count on and was always quick to find a way to make people smile. On behalf of George and the entire FNHL family, our hearts go out to the entire Jennings family, especially his daughter Erica. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Dan's mother has requested that anyone who would like to, share their remembrances of Dan and she will put them together in a keepsake for Erica. I have posted a discussion page here on the website that you can use to post your comments. Just click on the link below. If you also have pictures you can e-mail them to me and I will forward to the family.
